The Temporary Accommodation Notification Duty (TAND) was developed in response to concerns that families living in temporary accommodation were too often invisible to health and safeguarding services, despite the significant impact homelessness can have on children’s health and wellbeing. The new duty aims to ensure that when a family with children enters temporary accommodation, the relevant services are notified promptly so that appropriate health, safeguarding and support can be offered at the earliest opportunity.
TAND has been championed by a dedicated coalition of health, housing, safeguarding and voluntary-sector professionals who have worked together to ensure that children and families living in temporary accommodation are recognised, identified and supported at the earliest opportunity.
